The authors show that the logarithmic derivatives of the convolution heat kernels on a uni-modular Lie group are exponentially integrable. By estimating the \(L^p\)-norm of the derivatives on the log heat kernel, an integrated Harnack inequality is established for the heat kernel on a Lie group with Ricci curvature bounded below. This inequality is equivalent to the dimension-free Harnack inequality derived by \textit{F. Y. Wang} [Probab. Theory Relat. Fields 109, No.~3, 417--424 (1997; Zbl 0887.35012)]. Thus, the paper provides an alternative proof of this Harnack inequality on Lie groups. A key feature of all of these inequalities is that they are dimension independent. Other equivalent inequalities on manifolds (with or without boundary) can be found in a recent paper of \textit{F. Y. Wang} [J. Math. Pures Appl. (9) 94, No.~3, 304--321 (2010; Zbl 1207.58028)]. The exponential estimate on the derivative of the log heat kernel presented in Theorem 1.3 of the paper under review is original and very interesting. Finally, it is shown that these inequalities imply quasi-invariance properties of heat kernel measures for two classes of infinite dimensional Lie groups.
