From the summary and the introduction: This article presents a combinatorial solution of the Maurer-Cartan equation in the pre-Lie algebra of binary graphs which controls the deformation theory of associative algebras. This solution is canonical (i.e., choice independent) in the class of graphs without circuits, i.e., at the level of free operads, without imposing the Jacobi identity. This is a consequence of the unique factorization property of the pre-Lie algebra of graphs where composition is the insertion of graphs.
