Many results on the pinwheel tiling [\textit{Ch. Radin}, Ann. Math. 139, 661--702 (1994; Zbl 0808.52022)] are generalised to all primitive substitution tilings with tiles in infinitely many orientations. This includes the equidistribution of the orientations of the tiles (= statistical circular symmetry, i.e., there are no ``preferred'' orientations), a kind of repetitivity (with respect to an appropriate topology of the tiling spaces), and circular symmetry of the hull. Moreover, two infinite families of substitution tilings with statistical circular symmetry are given explicitly. This implies that statistical circular symmetry is not necessarily an exotic property for substitution tilings, but might be even the generic case.
