Let \(p\) be a prime, and let \(K\) be a conjugacy class of length \(p^n\) in a finite \(p\)-group \(G\). The author shows that the product \(KK^{-1}=\{xy^{-1}:x,y \in K\}\) is the union of at least \(n(p-1)+1\) conjugacy classes of \(G\). This bound is best possible. In case \(n=1\) the product \(KK^{-1}\) is the union of precisely \(p\) different conjugacy classes of \(G\).
