The authors consider the Cauchy problem for the anisotropic Navier-Stokes system in three dimensions. They prove that the problem is globally well posed in time, provided that the initial data is small, in a suitable sense, with respect to the horizontal viscosity. This result generalizes a previous result by J. Y. Chemin and I. Gallagher concerning the isotropic Navier-Stokes system to the anisotropic case.
