Let \(H\) be a finite group, \(k\) a field, and \(N\) a normal subgroup of \(H\). Clifford theory relates the representation theory of \(H\) to that of \(N\) and \(G = H/N\). The situation addressed in this paper is as follows: \(Q\) is an \(H\)-invariant right \(kN\)-module such that \(Q/\text{rad}(Q)\) is absolutely irreducible, and \(W\) is a right \(kH\)-module such that \(W_ N\) weakly divides \(Q\). The author provides a detailed analysis of \(W\) via the \(kH\)-filtration \(W \geq WI \geq WI^ 2 \geq \cdots \geq (0)\), where \(I\) is the ideal in \(kH\) generated by \(\text{rad}(kN)\). The problem is approached from the viewpoint of \(G\)-graded algebras and modules, and the results generalize some previously obtained by \textit{J. L. Alperin, M. J. Collins} and \textit{D. A. Sibley} [Bull. Lond. Math. Soc. 16, 416-420 (1984; Zbl 0533.20003)], and by \textit{J. F. Carlson} and \textit{M. J. Collins} [ibid. 18, 591-592 (1986; Zbl 0614.20001)]. The paper also shows how a certain class function studied by \textit{W. F. Reynolds} [in Representation theory II, Lect. Notes Math. 1178, 143-151 (1986; Zbl 0633.20006)] can be realized as a Brauer character.
