Nonlinear small data scattering for the generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation (Q1813261): Difference between revisions

The longtime stability of small solutions to the initial value problem for the generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation \(u_ t+u_{xxx}+(a(u))_ x=0\), \(u(x,0)=u_ 0(x)\) is studied. A lower bound for the degrees of nonlinearity is obtained which guarantees that the small solutions of the nonlinear problem behave asymptotically like the solutions of the associated linear problem. Using this bound, a nonlinear scattering result is established. For a class of small initial data, the value of the lower bound is improved. In the proofs the \(L^ p\)-decay estimates of the half derivative of the Airy kernel are used. See also papers by \textit{S. Klainerman} [Arch. Ration. Mech.
