It is shown with a suitable functional calculus, that \[ \text{trace}[f(S),h(S)]={1\over i}\int_{\sigma_{\text{ess}}(S)}mf dh \] for a tuple of subnormal operators \(S=\{S_ 1\dots,S_ n\}\) having a commuting normal extension if rank \([S_ j^*,S_ j]<\infty\), \(j=1,\dots,n\). A new formula for the multiplicity, \(m\), of the boundary components of the principal current is given in terms of the spectral resolution of the minimal normal extension of the subnormal tuple.
