For line bundles over Riemann surfaces, analytic torsion is the determinant of the Laplacian when it acts on smooth sections of a flat line bundle. The aim of this paper is to give an explicit expression for analytic torsion as a function on the space of flat line bundles; to do this, the author uses Riemann's theta-function and information about the underlying Riemann surface.
