A Hamiltonian \(G\)-space (or Hamiltonian representation) consists of a triple \((P,\phi,J)\) where \(P\) is a symplectic manifold, \(G\) a Lie group, \(\phi: G\times P\to P\) a symplectic action with equivariant momentum mapping \(J: P\to g^*\). The author points out that ``they are the classical (symplectic) analogues of unitary representations. Usual operations on unitary representations (such as direct product, restriction to a subgroup, inducing from a subgroup, producing subrepresentations, etc.) can naturally be defined for Hamiltonian representations''. In this paper it is shown that Hamiltonian representations can be viewed as a symplectic reduction \(\rho: T^*G\times P\to P\) associative with respect to the ``phase functor'', defined by S. Benenti. The author announces subsequent publications presenting symplectic analogues of quantum groups and \(C^*\) algebras.
