The authors study the finite dimensional unitary representations of the quantum group \(SU_ q(2)\). Then they obtain the Peter-Weyl theorem for \(SU_ q(2)\) and give explicit expression of the matrix elements of these unitary representations in terms of the little \(q\)-Jacobi polynomials which are known as \(q\)-analogues of orthogonal polynomials. Using these expressions, they obtain the orthogonality relations of these polynomials in terms of the Haar measure on the quantum group \(SU_ q(2)\). A nice introduction gives a small survey to this field.
