For \(n \geq 0\), let \(e_ n(z) = \sum^ n_{k=0} z^ k/k!\) denote the first \(n+1\) terms of the exponential series. In this paper the author shows (using a different notation) that the polynomial (in \(z)\) Hankel determinant \(\text{det} [(i+j)! \cdot e_{i+j} (z)]_{0 \leq i,j \leq n}\) is independent of \(z\), hence equals \(\text{det} [(i+j)!]_{0 \leq i,j \leq n} = (\prod^ n_{k = 0}k!)^ 2\). The proof makes use of a formula due to Sylvester which has already been employed by the author in an earlier article [Bull. Soc. Math. Belg., Sér. B 31, No. 1, 49-55 (1979; Zbl 0439.10006)] for evaluating other Hankel determinants of combinatorial interest.
