The authors extend two \(B\)-spline results --- Marsden's identity and the de Boor-Fix dual functionals to geometrically continuous curves determined by connection matrices. In doing so, they provide new derivations of Marsden's identity and the de Boor-Fix functionals for the \(B\)-spline case. These proofs are simple and thus also of interest in their own right. They also extend these results to piecewise polynomials defined in terms of connection matrices.
