    Für die numerische Behandlung von Randwertproblemen kann es von großer Wichtigkeit sein, komplizierte Gebiete auf solche mit einfacher Geometrie zu transformieren. Dieses Problem wird in der vorliegenden Arbeit behandelt, in der sich die Autoren mit der Konstruktion zweidimensionaler orthogonaler Abbildungen befassen. Da die konformen Abbildungen zu starken Einschränkungen unterliegen, wird von der Theorie der quasikonformen Abbildungen ausgegangen und eine Methode zur Erzeugung orthogonaler Gitter hergeleitet. Gegenüber den bisher verwendeten Methoden scheint dieses Verfahren deutliche Vorteile aufzuweisen, wie zum Beispiel: Einfachere Form der transformierten Gleichungen, bequemere und genauere Darstellung der Randbedingunqen, geringere Diskretisierungsfehler und kompaktere Differenzengleichungen. Mit einer Reihe numerischer Anwendungen schließt die Arbeit.
