Let \(f\) be a selfmap of a compact connected ANR. In part I of this paper the authors and \textit{R. Piccinini} discussed a Nielsen type number \(NP_ n(f)\) which is a homotopy invariant lower bound for the number of periodic points of \(f\) which have least period \(n\) [Lect. Notes Math. 1411, 88-106 (1989; Zbl 0689.55006)]. Here they continue their work and discuss a Nielsen type number \(N\Phi_ n(f)\) which is a homotopy invariant lower bound for all periodic points of \(f\) which have period \(n\) (i.e. points with least period \(m\) for all \(m\mid n\)). The definition of \(N\Phi_ n(f)\) is equivalent to the definition of \(NF_ n(f)\) in Chapter III.4 of \textit{B. Jiang's} book: Lectures on Nielsen fixed point theory [Contemp. Math. 14 (1983; Zbl 0512.55003)], but the methods of part I of this paper are again used in definitions and proofs. In particular, lifts to universal covering spaces are avoided and data involving only the fundamental group are used instead. There are helpful examples which explain why the somewhat complicated formula for \(N\Phi_ n(f)\) cannot always be replaced by an easier one such as, e.g., \(N(f^ n)\) or \(\sum\{NP_ m(f): m\mid n\}\), and conditions on \(f\) are found under which such a replacement is possible. It is shown, e.g., that \(N\Phi_ n(f)=N(f^ n)=| L(f^ n)|\) for a selfmap \(f\) of the \(k\)-torus \(T^ k\) with \(L(f^ n)\neq 0\). The authors explain why a procedure for the calculation of \(N\Phi_ n(f)\) given on p. 69 of B. Jiang's book [loc. cit.] will not always work, and in an appendix they construct examples of spaces and maps with arbitrarily given Nielsen type numbers. There is a wealth of non-trivial examples which enhance the paper greatly.
