The boundary value problem for the Stokes system is considered in a bounded domain \(\Omega\subset R^ n\) \[ -\Delta u+\nabla p=f,\quad\text{div} u=\psi\quad \text{ in } \Omega,\qquad u\mid_{\partial\Omega}=g. \tag{I} \] The authors adduce a new proof of the solvability of this problem in Sobolev spaces in the case of smooth boundary. The solvability of the problem (I) and estimates of solutions are established in the case of nonsmooth data. Namely, if \(\Omega\in C^{1,1}\) \(f\in W^{-1,r}(\Omega)\), \(g\in W^{1- 1/r,r}(\partial\Omega)\) and \(\int_ \Omega\psi dx=\int_{\partial\Omega}g\cdot nd\sigma\) then problem (I) has a unique solution \(u\in W^{1,r}(\Omega)\) and \(p\in L^ r(\Omega)\) and \[ \| u\|_{W^{1,r}(\Omega)}+\| p\|_{L^ r(\Omega)}\leq c[\| f\|_{W^{-1,r}(\Omega)}+\|\psi\|_{L^ r(\Omega)}+\| g\|_{W^{1-1/r,r}(\partial\Omega)}] \] Proofs given in this paper are highly brief.
