The complex structure on the Teichmüller space can be recovered in terms of representations of Fuchsian groups into an infinite dimensional space. The author constructs a kind of approximation of this space by finite dimensional subspaces. If \(\Gamma_ g@>\rho>>SL_ 2(\mathbb{R})\) is a faithful discrete representation of a surface group \(\Gamma_ g\), then \(\rho\) determines a point in the moduli space of spin Riemann surfaces. The tangent space at this point is isomorphic (via the Eichler-Shimura isomorphism) with the cohomology group \(H^ 1(\Gamma_ g,\Gamma({\mathfrak H},\Theta))\) where \(\Gamma({\mathfrak H},\Theta)\) is the complex vector space of holomorphic vector fields on \({\mathfrak H}\) (on which \(\Gamma_ g\) acts). \(({\mathfrak H}\) is the complex upper half-plane.) A \(\Gamma_ g\)-submodule \(F_ \rho\) of \(\Gamma({\mathfrak H},\Theta)\) is constructed which is minimal such that \(H^ 1(\Gamma_ g,F_ \rho)\cong H^ 1(\Gamma_ g,\Gamma({\mathfrak H},\Theta))\). The \(\Gamma_ g\)-module \(F_ g\) has infinite \(\mathbb{C}\)- dimension but can be realized as the union of an increasing family of finite dimensional \(\Gamma_ g\)-submodules.
