    The paper studies the motion of an elastic membrane stretched on the rectangular region \(\Omega=(0,l_ 1)\times(0,l_ 2)\), with the boundary \(\Gamma_ 0\cup\Gamma_ 1\cup\Gamma_ 2\cup\Gamma_ 3\cup P_ 1\cup P_ 2\), where: \[ \begin{alignedat}{2} \Gamma_ 0&=\{(x,y):0\leq x\leq l_ 1,\;y=0\},\qquad &\Gamma_ 1&=\{(x,y):x=0,\;0<y<l_ 2\},\\ \Gamma_ 2&=\{(x,y):x=l_ 1,\;0<y<l_ 2\},\qquad &\Gamma_ 3&=\{(x,y):0<x<l_ 1,\;y=l_ 2\},\\ P_ 1&=(0,l_ 2),\qquad &P_ 2&=(l_ 1,l_ 2).\end{alignedat} \] It is assumed that the membrane, having vertical small vibrations, is clamped on the boundary \(\Gamma_ 0\) and is free on \(\Gamma_ 3\), whereas it is connected with two elastic strings on the sides \(\Gamma_ 1\) and \(\Gamma_ 2\). Hence the motion of the membrane is governed by the equation: \[ u_{tt}=\Delta u, \quad (x,y)\in\Omega, \quad t>0, \] with the boundary conditions: \[ u|_{\Gamma_ 0}\equiv 0,\quad t\geq 0,\quad{\partial u\over\partial \nu}|_{\Gamma_ 3}={\partial u\over\partial y}|_{\Gamma_ 3}\equiv 0,\quad t\geq 0, \] \(u_{tt}(0,y,t)=u_{yy}(0,y,t)+au_ x(0,y,t)\), \((y,t)\in(0,l_ 2)\times\mathbb{R}^ +\), \(u_{tt}(l_ 1,y,t)=u_{yy}(l_ 1,y,t)-au_ x(l_ 1,y,t)\), \((y,t)\in(0,l_ 2)\times\mathbb{R}^ +\). Furthermore, it is assumed that the strings on \(\Gamma_ 1\) and \(\Gamma_ 2\) are at rest at the endpoints \(y=0\), compatible with the condition (2). At the other two endpoints \(P_ 1\) and \(P_ 2\), the two strings are linked to movable rigid bodies with two force controllers attached there. The dynamics at \(P_ 1\) and \(P_ 2\) are determined by \(u_{tt}(P_ 1,t)=-b_ 1u_ y(P_ 1,t)+f_ 1(t)\), \(u_{tt}(P_ 2,t)=-b_ 2u_ y(P_ 2,t)+f_ 2(t)\), \(t\geq 0\), where the constants \(b_ 1\) and \(b_ 2\) are given and \(f_ 1\) and \(f_ 2\) are the controllers. This elastic system is formulated as an abstract hyperbolic evolution problem in a suitable function space and it is studied by using techniques of functional analysis and semigroup theory. Then a feedback control is found to stabilize the whole system.
