Let \(M\) be the Mirkil algebra, a commutative regular semisimple Banach algebra. Two of the main results of the paper are: (1) Corresponding to each non-spectral set in the maximal ideal space of \(M\), there is a pair of closed singly generated ideals whose intersection is not finitely generated; (2) Every subset of the maximal ideal space is the union of two sets for which spectral synthesis holds.
