The technique known as ``killing homeomorphisms'' was developed by \textit{W. Sierpinski} [Fundam. Math. 19, 65-71 (1932; Zbl 0005.19702)]. This technique has been used by various authors to construct examples. The results of this paper derive simultaneously three significant examples constructed using the ``killing homeomorphisms'' technique. The three constructions produce: (1) a rigid homogeneous chain [\textit{T. Ohkuma}, ibid. 43, 326-337 (1956; Zbl 0073.27102)]; (2) a compact homogeneous space with a measure that ``knows'' which sets are homeomorphic [\textit{E. K. van Douwen}, Adv. Math. 52, 1-33 (1984; Zbl 0535.43001)]; and (3) an almost uniquely homogeneous subgroup of Euclidean \(n\)-space [\textit{J. E. Keesling} and \textit{D. C. Wilson}, Topology Appl. 22, 183-190 (1986; Zbl 0586.57019)]. The paper is well-referenced and provides good connections to the literature and to unresolved questions.
