In the years 1866-90 different researchers tried to reduce the main theorems of thermodynamics to the theorems of mechanics. Here one should mention such names, as L. Boltzmann, R. Clausius, C. Szily, H. v. Helmholtz, J. J. Thomson, J. C. Maxwell, H. Poincaré, E. Mach, G. Helm, R. Richarz and P. Ehrenfest. The author discusses in detail the history of the thermodynamics as well as the results of this theory. The paper is a continuation of previous author's articles.
