The main purpose of the paper is to construct counterexamples, in any characteristic, to the conjecture that differentially simple (noetherian) local domains should be Cohen-Macaulay. In order to be meaningful in prime characteristic as well, one considers Hasse-Schmidt (H-S for short) derivations instead of ordinary derivations. In \S 1 the authors construct a local domain of dimension two and grade (=depth) one that contains a field and that is \(D\)-simple for an iterative H-S derivation \(D\). -- In \S 2, they show that a local domain \(R\) which is H-S simple (in the sense that the only ideals stable under every H-S derivation are (0) and (1)) has grade one if and only if the completion of \(R\) has an associated prime of coheight one. -- In \S 3, they prove that any H-S derivation of a local ring \(R\) is uniquely extended to its Henselization \(R^ h\), and that if \(R\) is H-S simple then so is \(R^ h\). Therefore the Henselization of the example in \S 1 is also such a counter-example.
