Let \(X\) be a separable topological space and let \(\Phi:\mathbb{R}^ +\times X\to X\) be a semidynamical system on \(X\), that is, \(\Phi\) is such that \(\Phi(0,x)=x\) for each \(x\in X\) and \(\Phi(s+t,x)=\Phi(s,\Phi(t,x))\) for all \(x\in X\), \(s,t\in\mathbb{R}^ +\). A function \(f:\mathbb{R}^ +\times X\to\mathbb{R}^ +\) satisfying the functional equation \((*)\) \(f(s+t,x)=f(t,x)f(s,\Phi(t,x))\) for every \(x\in X\), \(s,t\geq 0\) is called a cocycle of the system \((X,\Phi)\). Under suitable conditions, the author provides an explicit form of the globally measurable or continuous solution of the functional equation \((*)\). The case when \(X=\mathbb{R}\) is also studied.
