    Sei \(H_ n\) die \((2n + 1)\)-dimensionale Heisenberg-Gruppe, \({\mathfrak h}_ n\) die zugehörige Lie-Algebra und \(V_ 1,\dots\), \(V_{2n}\), \(U\) eine Basis von \({\mathfrak h}_ n\) mit den nichttrivialen Lie-Produkten \([V_ j,V_{j+n}] = U\), \(j = 1,\dots,n\). Untersucht wird die Invertierbarkeit der linksinvarianten Differentialoperatoren zweiter Ordnung auf \(H_ n\) der Form \(\sum^{2n}_{i,j = 1} a_{ij}V_ iV_ j - 2i\alpha U\), wobei \(A = (a_{ij})\) eine symmetrische reelle Matrix und \(\alpha\) eine komplexe Zahl ist. Es wird eine vollständige Antwort gegeben auf die Frage, wann ein solcher Differentialoperator lokal auflösbar ist. Dabei stützen sich die Autoren auf Ergebnisse einer früheren Arbeit [vgl. Teil I, Invent Math. 101, No. 3, 545-582 (1990; Zbl 0742.43006)], in der sie für gewisse Differentialoperatoren auf einem semidirekten Produkt \(\mathbb{R} \ltimes {\mathfrak h}_ n\) explizite Fundamentallösungen angegeben haben, und zwar unter Verwendung gewisser Einparametergruppen unitärer Operatoren in \(L^ 2(\mathbb{R}^{2n})\). Entscheidend für die Frage der lokalen Auflösbarkeit des vorliegenden Differentialoperators erweist sich das Spektrum \(\sigma(S)\) der Matrix \(S:= -AJ \in {\mathfrak sp}(n,\mathbb{R})\) mit \(J:= ({0 \atop -I_ n}{I_ n \atop 0})\). Eine negative Antwort ergibt sich höchstens dann, wenn \(\sigma(S)\) rein imaginär, \(\alpha\) reell und \(S\) halbeinfach ist; in diesem Fall erhält man für die lokale Auflösbarkeit ein zahlentheoretisches Kriterium, bezogen auf \(\sigma(S)\) und \(\alpha\).
