Take a Reinhardt domain \(D\subset(\mathbb{C}^*)^ n\). Denote by \({\mathcal D}\) its basis \({\mathcal D}=\{(x_ 1,\dots,x_ n)\in\mathbb{R}^ n\): \((e^{x_ 1},\dots,e^{x_ n})\in D\}\). Consider a function \(f\) on \(D\) which is \((S^ 1)^ n\)-invariant and a function \(\tilde f\) on \({\mathcal D}\) defined by \(\tilde f(x_ 1,\dots,x_ n)=f(e^{x_ 1},\dots,e^{x_ n})\). A classical result \((R)\) says that \(f\) is plurisubharmonic if and only if \(\tilde f\) is convex. Now let \(X=G/K\) be a compact symmetric space and \(X_ \mathbb{C}=G_ \mathbb{C}/K_ \mathbb{C}\) its complexification. In Part I the authors generalize \((R)\) by giving a characterization of \(G\)-invariant plurisubharmonic functions \(f\) on \(G\)-invariant Stein domain in \(X_ \mathbb{C}\) in terms of convexity of a suitably defined \(\tilde f\). Finite dimensional representation theory of complex reductive groups is used in the proofs. In Part II the results of Part I are used for giving a characterization of \(G\)-invariant Kählerian metrics on \(X_ \mathbb{C}\), or on invariant Stein domains in it. For \(K\) semi-simple we have \(\omega=i\partial\overline\partial\varphi\), where \(\varphi\) is \(G\)- invariant and plurisubharmonic. This gives a characterization of such \(\omega\) in terms of convexity. In Appendix the method of Part II is used for a characterization of \(G\)- invariant Kählerian metrics on rational homogeneous manifolds \(G_ \mathbb{C}/P\). The exact formulations of the results are too technical to be quoted in a review.
