Quasi-perspectivities in stable planes (Q1261151): Difference between revisions

A linear space \(\mathbb{M}=(M,{\mathcal M})\) is called a stable plane if \(M\) and \({\mathcal M}\) carry locally compact Hausdorff topologies such that the geometric operations are continuous and the set of pairs of intersecting lines is open in \({\mathcal M}\times{\mathcal M}\). A subgroup \(\Delta\) of the automorphism group of \(\mathbb{M}\) is called quasi-perspective if each point orbit of \(\Delta\) is contained in some line. Quasi-perspective collineation groups of projective planes were investigated by \textit{R. Baer} [Bull. Am. Math. Soc. 52, 273-286 (1946; Zbl 0061.308)]. The author extends Baer's results to the setting of stable planes whose point spaces have positive finite dimension. In particular, he determines the possible fixed point configurations of quasi-perspectivities. Further, he finds restrictions on the structure of finite quasi-perspective groups and he derives upper bounds for the dimension of locally compact quasi- perspective groups.
