The author considers the Cauchy problem for the linearized Boltzmann equation \(M_ t=B(\varphi)u\) where the potential \(\varphi \equiv \varphi(x)\) is a sufficiently smooth real valued function. It is proved that for \(\varphi(x)=| x |^ 2/2\) the solutions of the Cauchy problem have the decay order of an irrational function.
