By a well-known result of Quillen, the rational homotopy category of simply connected spaces has an algebraic model given by a category of differential graded coalgebras. In the present paper the author gives a partial analogue for \(p\)-adic homotopy. Several categories and functors are considered. The main result concerns a functor \(\Gamma\) from simplicial sets to a category of cosimplicial \(\underset\widetilde{} Z/p\) algebras; it says that two simplicial sets \(S\) and \(T\) have the same \(p\)-adic homotopy type if there is a chain of morphisms between \(\Gamma S\) and \(\Gamma T\) inducing isomorphisms in cohomology. This means that \(\Gamma\) is in some sense injective on isomorphism classes of objects; it is, however, not surjective.
