In this work the authors construct the operator theory of the heuristic open Bosonic string and a suitable field algebra for the string. Starting from the historical formulation of the quantum string, they obtain the appropriate one particle Krein space and start a Fock type construction. They define the mode oscillator operators and Virasoro string constrained operator on the Fock-Krein space, consider the domain conditions and write the full infinitesimal operator string theory in the Fock-Krein representation. Then they integrate the infinitesimally symplectic time translations to a symplectic one parameter group on test function space and prove that this group is \(J\)-unitary implementable on the string field operators in the Fock-Krein representation. With much more difficulties, the same is done for gauge transformations and Poincaré transformations. Then they define a \(C^*\)-dynamical system containing the physical information of the string by using a CCR algebra for the mode fields, examine its covariant representations and propose constraint conditions to select its physical states.
