Most methods for decomposing tensor products of representations of simple Lie algebras are effective only for small rank. The author proves some generalizations of two methods of Dynkin: the second-highest weight rule and the method of subordination [\textit{E. B. Dynkin}, Tr. Mosk. Mat. O.-va 1, 39-166 (1952; Zbl 0048.016)]. The author also proves some theorems about the tensor product of representations of special type which are effective for arbitrary rank but do not give full information about the irreducible components of the tensor product.
