The relation between Morita duality and \(\text{QF-}3\) rings has been studied extensively by several authors. There is a generalization of Morita duality for Grothendieck categories proposed recently by P. N. Ánh and R. Wiegandt [cf. the authors, J. Algebra 148, 53-67 (1992; Zbl 0760.18008)]. A ring \(R\) is defined to be left \(\text{QF-}3''\) provided every finitely generated submodule of the injective envelope \(E(_ RR)\) is torsionless. In this paper the authors investigate the close connection between \(\text{QF-}3''\) rings and the Ánh-Wiegandt duality. A crucial result in the paper is the fact that a ring \(R\) with the maximal quotient ring \(Q\) is \(\text{QF-}3''\) precisely when the \(Q\)-dual functors induce a Morita duality in the sense of Ánh-Wiegandt between certain quotient categories of \(R\)-Mod and Mod-\(R\). Then the authors use this duality to study the structure of \(\text{QF-}3''\) rings. In particular, they characterize the left-right symmetry of the \(\text{Q- }3''\) condition in terms of a linear compactness property, and use this result to show that a ring \(R\) has a \(\text{QF-}3''\) maximal quotient ring if and only if \(R\) is the endomorphism ring of a linearly compact generator and self-cogenerator of a Grothendieck category. Finally, it is proved that a \(\text{QF-}3''\) maximal quotient ring with ACC or DCC on essential left ideals is a left Artinian and \(\text{QF-}3\) ring.
