The authors endow the hyperspace of closed subsets of a metric space with uniformities defined by pseudometrics (which the authors call semi- metrics). In this unified approach the large (and ever increasing) number of hypertopologies find a proper place. The work, a gem from a theoretical point of view, is highly recommended. For related work see the papers of Beer and his associates (e.g. [\textit{G. Beer} and \textit{R.Lucchetti}, Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 335, No. 2, 805-822 (1993; see the review above)] where further references will be found).
