For any convex bodies \(P,Q\) in \(E^ n\), let \(h_ P(Q) : = \inf \{h(P_ 1,P_ 2)\); \(P_ 1 \subset Q \subset P_ 2\), \(P_ 1\) is an affine image of \(P\), and \(P_ 2\) is a homothetic copy of \(P_ 1\) of ratio \(h(P_ 1,P_ 2) > 0\}\). The problem is to estimate \(h_ P\) for \(P\) of various affine types. Previously, the problem was solved for parallelotopes (Chakerian \& Stein; Lassak), for centrally symmetric bodies (Lassak), and for triangles, in \(E^ 2\). The author solves the problem for simplices in \(E^ 3\): Theorem. Let \(Q\) be a convex body in \(E^ 3\). If \(S\) is a simplex, then \(h_ S(Q) \leq {13 \over 3}\). In fact, he obtains this result as a consequence of a stronger theorem, which is formulated only in an abstract (though is interesting itself).
