The authors study a model of a system of two competing species in two patches in which one of the species can diffuse between the two patches and the second is restricted to one of the patches. They find sufficient conditions for the two species to coexist (persistence) and show that the presence of diffusion can convert a system in which the first of the competitors goes extinct in the patch containing both species into a system with coexistence. Finally, if all the coefficients in the system are \(\omega\)-periodic, they give sufficient conditions for the existence of a globally asymptotically stable (and hence unique) \(\omega\)-periodic solution.
