The authors present a new differential algebraic approach to obtain an exponential observer for a class of bilinear multi-input multi-output systems \(\dot x = \left( A_0 + \sum^m_{i = 1} A_i u_i\right) x + Bu\), \(y = Cx + Du\) (where \(u = (u_1, \dots, u_m) \in \mathbb{R}^m\), \(x \in \mathbb{R}^n\), \(y \in \mathbb{R}\)) which are supported to be observable in the Diop-Fliess observability sense [cf. \textit{S. Diop} and \textit{M. Fliess}, IEEE Proc. 30th Conf. Dec. Contr., Brighton, England, 714-719 (1991)]. In particular, they show that by an appropriate choice of the differential primitive element, it is possible to obtain a multi- output translated Fliess generalized observability canonical form. As an example, they construct an exponential observer for a chemical reactor model with \(n = 4\), \(m = p = 2\).
