Consider a morphism of tori as a complex of length two. In the course of the theory of endoscopy, Kottwitz and Shelstad expressed the (Galois-) hypercohomology of a complex of tori of length two by the hypercohomology of the character lattices. In the present paper a new proof is given which is based on cohomological considerations only and is extended to a proof of the analogous result for arbitrary bounded complexes.
