The Murnaghan-Nakayama rule is a combinatorial rule for computing symmetric group characters. It has recently been extended to compute Iwahori-Hecke algebra characters and Brauer algebra characters. It is proved using the fact that the symmetric group \({\mathcal S}_f\) and the general linear group \(\text{GL}(r, {\mathbf C})\) centralize each other on the tensor space \(\otimes^f V\) of \(f\) copies of the natural representation \(V\) of \(\text{GL}(r, {\mathbf C})\). This tensor space contains the polynomial representation of \(\text{GL}(r, {\mathbf C})\). The mixed tensor space \(T^{m, n}= (\otimes^m V)\otimes (\otimes^n V^*)\), where \(V^*\) is the dual to \(V\), contains the rational representation of \(\text{GL}(r, {\mathbf C})\). When \(r\geq n+ m\), the centralizer is the complex algebra \({\mathcal B}^r_{n, m}\) which is a subalgebra of the Brauer algebra \({\mathcal B}^r_{n+ m}\). If we let \(V_q= V\otimes {\mathbf C}(q)\), then \(T^{m, n}_q= (\otimes^m V_q)\otimes (\otimes^n V^*_q)\) contains the rational representation of quantum group \({\mathcal U}_q(\text{gl}(r, {\mathbf C}))\), and when \(r\geq n+ m\) its centralizer is the two-parameter Iwahori-Hecke algebra \(H^r_{m, n}(q)\). In the paper under review the author derives a combinatorial rule for computing \({\mathcal B}^r_{n, m}\)- characters and \(H^r_{m, n}(q)\)-characters, and uses it to compute inductively character tables. He presents character tables for the algebras \(H^r_{1,1}(q)\), \(H^r_{2, 1}(q)\), \(H^r_{3, 1}(q)\), \(H^r_{2, 2}(q)\), \(H^r_{3, 2}(q)\), \(H^r_{3, 3}\) for \(r\geq n+ m\). Setting \(q= 1\) gives the corresponding \({\mathcal B}^r_{n, m}\)- character tables. The Murnaghan-Nakayama rule for \({\mathcal S}_m\) and the Iwahori-Hecke algebra \(H_m(q)\) are obtained as the special case when \(n= 0\).
