    Dies ist der erste Teil einer Arbeit zu spektralen Multiplikator-Operatoren auf der Heisenbergschen Gruppe (bzw. dazu eng verwandten Gruppen). Hier werden im wesentlichen Funktionen \(m({\mathcal L},iT)\) von zwei Operatoren untersucht, wobei \({\mathcal L}\) den üblichen Sublaplace-Operator und \(T\) das zentrale Element in der Lieschen Algebra bezeichnet und der Multiplikator \(m\) typischerweise eine Marcinkiewiczsche Bedingung der Form \[ \Bigl |(\xi \partial_\xi)^\alpha (\eta\partial_\eta)^\beta m(\xi,\eta) \Bigr|\leq C_{\alpha \beta} \] für \(\alpha,\beta \leq N\) erfüllt. Wie die Autoren zeigen, ist \(m({\mathcal L},iT)\) ein beschränkter Operator auf \(L^p\), \(1<p<\infty\), sofern \(N\) ausreichend groß ist. Ferner werden Eigenschaften der \(m({\mathcal L},iT)\) repräsentierenden Kerne zusammengestellt (für den Fall, daß die obige Bedingung für alle \(N\) erfüllt ist) und, in Abstraktion des gerade beschriebenen Ergebnisses, wird gezeigt, daß diese Eigenschaften bereits \(L^p\)-Beschränktheit erzwingen. Schließlich werden die gefundenen Resultate an Hand spezieller Multiplikatoren \(m\) illustriert und angewendet, z.B. auf das Neumannsche \(\overline\partial\)-Problem. In der Tat läßt sich etwa der kritische Fall, der in dem einschlägigen Artikel von D. H. Phong und E. M. Stein offen geblieben war, mit den entwickelten Methoden behandeln.
