Accurate solutions for steady plane flow in the driven cavity. I: Stokes flow (Q1898023): Difference between revisions

The steady incompressible plane Stokes flow in a rectangular cavity due to uniform translation of the upper wall is investigated. An exact solution is derived which contains the required singularities at the upper corners and approximately satisfies the boundary conditions at the walls. A numerical method is developed to correct small errors in the boundary conditions to be satisfied by the exact solution. This technique enables one to compute a uniformly valid solution throughout the domain. The method is applied to the square cavity and to a deep cavity with aspect ratio five, and the results are in good agreement with previous analytical and numerical solutions.
