The author considers tilings of the plane by rotations and translations of copies of a finite set of tiles. In particular, the paper deals with tilings generated by substitution: a map \(F\) is introduced which replaces a tile by a collection of tiles whose union is similar to the original tile. Iteratively applying the substitution and taking the limit gives rise to a collection of so-called VLS tilings of the plane. The author then shows that under some simple conditions, the \(\mathbb{R}^2\) action by translation on the set of all such tilings for a particular \(F\) is uniquely ergodic. He goes on to show that it follows in this case that there is no discrete part to the spectrum of the dynamical system.
