The authors continue their calculations in which the \(R\)-matrix method is combined with the finite element method. This has the advantage that the boundary conditions are imposed at the maximum radius of the molecular change cloud, reducing the domain for the finite element calculation. The theory is developed and calculations for \(e - H_2\) and \(e - N_2\) are given. The results and efficiency of the calculations are discussed. One useful feature is the approximation of the, short range, exchange terms by a sparse matrix.
