In the framework of Lie groups and Lie algebras the author proposes Runge-Kutta type methods for the computation of integral curves of vector fields on manifolds. This article is mainly concerned with the derivation of order conditions for such methods. It is shown that there is a one-to-one correspondence between elementary differentials (in the classical theory) and certain commutators of vector fields. Hence, the well-known order conditions are recovered in this more general setting.
