A detailed study of reachability of linear systems in terms of polynomial matrix descriptions (PMDs) is provided. The PMDs approach was invented several years ago by Rosenbrock and it has been extensively generalized recently. Due to numerous possible applications this is a very promising generalization of classic theories which also covers the area of singular systems.
