The authors consider some implications of the finite size of particles in averaged-equation models for the disperse two-phase flow. They point out that the often ignored difference between exact volume fraction and the widely used approximation \(nv\) (\(n\) is the particle number density, and \(v\) is the particle volume) leads to an important change in the mathematical structure of the equations at short scales. Additionally, the authors investigate the case of a dilute suspension of ``large'' particles in a potential flow. On some examples, they show the role of the translation of averaged fields over distances of the order of the particle size.
