The influence of the multiplicative structure on the geometry of normed and topological algebras has been known for a long time. The author continues the study of the multiplicative structure of topological algebras and defines algebras without small semigroups quite analogously to those in topological groups (the algebras in the article are assumed to be Hausdorff and convex). In the first section, the behaviour of semigroups in a neighborhood of the set of roots of unity is studied. Some examples of algebras with (without) small semigroups are given in Section 2 of the article. In particular, normed algebras with multiplicative norm and Banach algebras have no small semigroups. In Section 3 the author considers various set-theoretic constructions over the algebra \(C[0,1]\) and its subalgebras.
