The notion of quantum Poincaré group is introduced axiomatically and then a practically complete classification is provided. The quantum Poincaré group is a Hopf \(\ast\)-algebra \((\mathcal B,\Delta)\) which is built from a quantum Lorentz group \((\mathcal A,\Delta)\) and translations \(p_i\), \(i=0,1,2,3\), and satisfies some natural properties relating \(\mathcal B\) with its subalgebra \(\mathcal A\) and the elements \(p_i\in\mathcal B\). First, one shows that for any \((\mathcal B,\Delta)\) there is a canonical choice of a two-dimensional representation \(w\) of the quantum Lorentz group in such a way that \(\mathcal A\) is the universal \(\ast\)-algebra generated by entries of \(w\) satisfying a series of quadratic relations. This classification gives 7 cases. Then in each case the list of all nonisomorphic quantum Poincaré groups is derived. The solution depends on a set of numerical parameters. Furthermore, the quantum Minkowski space is defined as well and one shows that to each quantum Poincaré group there corresponds exactly one quantum Minkowski space. The Poincaré series of these objects are the same as in the classical case.
