For any two orders \(S\), \(R\) of a matrix ring \(Q\), denote by \(S\sim_\ell R\) the relation that there exist regular elements \(a,b\in Q\) such that \(Ra\subseteq S\) and \(Sb\subseteq R\). Let \(\pi_R\) be the special class of rings generated by a PI-ring \(R\). Then \(S\in\pi_R\) if and only if \(S\equiv_\ell R\), where \(S\equiv_\ell R\) means that \(S\) and \(R\) have homomorphic images \(\overline S\), \(\overline R\), respectively, such that \(\overline S\sim_\ell\overline R\).
