A new approach to obtain methods for the numerical solution of some fourth-order boundary value problems (BVPs) with engineering applications is developed. This approach is based on the minimization of the phase-lag. A new four-step sixth-order method with phase-lag order eight is presented. Illustrative numerical results are produced to show the efficiency of the new approach.
