This paper is concerned with the continuity and compactness of the Uryson integral operator. This operator works on general spaces containing ideal spaces (\(L_p\)-spaces and Orlicz spaces). A theorem is proved allowing to construct growth conditions on the generating function and ensuring that the operator is continuous and compact. An application to nonlinear Volterra-Uryson equation is given. The existence proof of a local solution is obtained.
