The author considers Maxwell's equations and notes that they, when the divergence of electric displacement and magnetic induction are considered, imply the existence of a system of eight equations for six equations. He reproduces Muller's asymptotic relations for the fields and refers to the work of Jiang et al, who showed that the neglect of the divergence equations may lead to spurious solutions in computational electromagnetics.
